Kia America Inc. is recalling certain Niro and Niro Plug-in hybrid vehicles after it was found that a fluid leak may result in an engine compartment fire.
Over 120,000 vehicles are affected by the recall: 2017-2022 Kia Niro and 2018-2022 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrids. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, fluid may leak into the printed circuit board inside the hydraulic clutch actuator, which can result in an engine compartment fire.
Owners of the affected vehicles will receive a notification letter, which is expected to be mailed Sept. 29. Kia dealers will inspect and replace the hydraulic clutch actuator as necessary and install a new fuse, free of charge.
